You may have heard us say it before, but we will repeat: We Love Classic Cars! We understand their rarity, how much it costs to fix/transport them, and how devastating it would be to lose them. They just don’t make them like they used to. Much of the same can be said for the high-end cars, like Ferrari. They just need a little extra care when transporting.
Several weeks ago, we were interviewed by a gentleman and his friend to determine if we were the right company to work with in moving a few of his treasures (Ferrari, Corvette, GTX). The day of our first meeting I had my son with me (he is 2). As soon as my son saw the ’68 Corvette, he had to “drive” it, and the guys loved setting him in the driver’s seat. One of them buckled him in and we all had a good laugh watching him twist the steering wheel and touch the shifter like he knew exactly what he was doing.
After setting the date for the haul, we had a bit of time to prepare. This haul would likely be one of the most important and valuable experiences we will gain. You just don’t see these things every day. Our challenges were making sure that not one chain touched the body of any of these cars, and that the Ferrari is only four inches off the ground.
The first challenge was an easy fix – double basket straps. This meant that only the soft straps touched the vehicle. With the second challenge, we wanted to make sure that what we used was versatile, safe, and easily maneuverable. The cost of ordering ramps is phenomenal. Now I don’t want to give the impression that we couldn’t have ordered them; however, businesses are wise to save money where they can, and this was a good spot to do it. My past experience has been in carpentry. I was able to design and build a solid ramp system that was cost effective, sturdy, and safe. It worked beautifully! The bed of the truck rested right into the top of the ramps so it was a smooth transition for ramp to bed. At the sharpest angle, there was more than an inch of clearance. That alone made for a successful day. The Ferrari was followed by the beautiful ’68 Corvette and the rare ’71 Plymouth GTX.
Thank you to our customers for believing in us and trusting us with your most valuable treasures. It was a great experience for us and we look forward to a long road of helping and hauling. Be safe out there and have a great day!
